As we approach the fall season, I can’t help but get excited about all things Halloween.

The cooler weather, the aroma of pumpkin spice lattes, and the anticipation of cozy nights by the fire, it’s all a part of what makes this time of year so special.

But there’s another reason why this season is my favorite: it’s prime time for Pinterest traffic, especially as Halloween draws near.

In the past, we recommended getting your Halloween pins up as early as July or August.

The idea was to give your pins a few months to simmer and start ranking in searches by the time October rolled around. But 2024 is proving to be different.

Newer pins are climbing the search ranks much faster than before, often in just 2-4 weeks. This shift is changing the way many Pinterest creators are approaching their holiday content.

So, when is the best time to start pinning Halloween content this year? Let’s take a closer look at the trends.

The graph above shows the interest over time for "Halloween Nails." Notice how the search interest spikes sharply in mid-September and peaks in late October.

This suggests that early September is the ideal time to begin pinning your Halloween content to maximize visibility.

Getting your pins out there just before the surge gives you a better chance of capturing that wave of interest as it builds.

The timing can vary depending on your niche. For example, if your content revolves around crafting or DIY projects that take longer, you might want to start even earlier.

On the other hand, if you’re focused on last-minute Halloween party ideas or recipes, pinning closer to October might be more effective.

Let’s dive into the current growing trends:

According to the latest data, "Halloween Nails" has seen a 50% increase in weekly searches and a staggering 300% increase in monthly searches.

This is a clear indicator that Halloween-related content is already starting to gain traction.

Other related keywords like "Fall Decor" and "Fall Outfits for Women" are also on the rise, making now the perfect time to begin your Halloween pinning strategy.

And don’t forget—right after Halloween, it’s time to shift gears toward Christmas!

Based on previous trends, Christmas-related pins see their first spikes in late October and early November, with peak interest around mid-December.

You can start pinning Christmas decor, gift ideas, and holiday recipes as soon as Halloween is over to keep your Pinterest traffic strong.

➡️Sports-Related Holiday Content

With the fall season also comes the excitement of major sports events. Whether it's football, basketball, or soccer, sports-themed content can be a huge traffic driver on Pinterest during this time.

From tailgating recipes to game-day outfit ideas and sports-themed holiday decor, there’s a lot of potential to tap into this audience.

Consider weaving sports themes into your holiday content. For example, create a pin board with ideas for a “Football-Themed Halloween Party” or “Sports-Inspired Christmas Gifts.”

The crossover between sports enthusiasts and holiday planners can bring a fresh angle to your Pinterest strategy.

➡️Christmas-Themed Holiday Content

As the holiday season approaches, Christmas-themed content becomes a major traffic driver on Pinterest.

People are actively searching for inspiration to make their Christmas celebrations special, whether it's festive décor, unique gift ideas, or holiday recipes.

Make your content festive by adding a festive twist to the above list. The mix of creativity and holiday spirit can bring an engaging angle to your Pinterest strategy, such as "Christmas Decor Ideas" or "Christmas Card Art."

You can also explore themes like "Christmas Tree Themes" or "Christmas Gift Ideas for Women"

Whether you’re focused on Halloween, Christmas, or year-round content, I’ll ensure your pins are perfectly optimized for success.

Here’s what I recommend:

Start Pinning in Early September: Begin scheduling your Halloween pins right at the start of September. This gives your pins enough time to gain momentum and reach peak visibility by mid-October.

Plan for Christmas: As soon as Halloween winds down, start rolling out your Christmas content. Focus on early November to capture the first wave of holiday planners.

Integrate Sports Themes: Use sports-related keywords to create unique, timely content that resonates with fans during the fall season. This could be anything from game-day recipes to sports-themed holiday decor.

Use Pinterest Trends to Fine-Tune Your Timing: Analyze your niche using the Pinterest Trends tool to identify when your audience begins searching for Halloween, Christmas, and sports-related content. Adjust your pinning schedule accordingly to align with these trends.

Create Fresh Pins Regularly: Instead of pinning everything all at once, spread out your pinning schedule throughout September, October, and into November and December. This will keep your content fresh and engaging, which Pinterest favors in its search algorithm.

Adapt Based on Niche Needs: If you’re in a niche that requires advanced planning, like DIY crafts or costumes, start pinning even earlier. For niches that focus on last-minute ideas, such as party planning or recipes, a later start may be more beneficial.

This year, I’m adjusting my strategy based on these insights. I’ll publish new Halloween blog posts in early October and start pining in early September, spacing out my pins through the Halloween season.

My Christmas content will follow immediately after, focusing on sports-related ideas throughout the fall.

Now it’s your turn. Head over to Pinterest Trends and start planning your holiday pinning strategy:

  • Identify Your Key Holiday Keywords: Use the trends tool to find the best keywords to target for Halloween, Christmas, and sports-related content in your niche.

  • Plan Your Pinning Schedule: Based on your niche's search behavior, decide when to start and how frequently to pin.

  • Create and Pin Fresh Content: Keep your audience engaged by regularly adding new pins throughout the season.

Let’s make this holiday season the most successful one yet on Pinterest!
